Federal authorities have detained Randon Alexander Sprinkle, a key figure associated with the Democratic Party of Virginia, on a grave charge of distributing child pornography. The arrest, substantiated by court documents filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, has sent ripples throughout the local political landscape.
Sprinkle, who previously held the position of finance chairman for the Democratic Party of Virginia, is currently being held at the Northern Neck Regional Jail in Warsaw, Virginia, as he awaits further legal proceedings. The investigation that led to his arrest commenced in May 2025 when an undercover FBI agent made contact with Sprinkle on Jack’d, a gay dating application. The criminal complaint against Sprinkle is supported by a detailed nine-page FBI affidavit.
According to these documents, Sprinkle, using the pseudonym “Randy,” allegedly initiated a conversation on Jack’d and proposed to continue their dialogue on Telegram, a messaging app. It is on this platform that Sprinkle purportedly expressed interest in "young, rape, incest," as stated in the affidavit. The FBI's Richmond field office, through sustained interaction, identified and traced Sprinkle, culminating in a federal search warrant executed at his Henrico County residence on October 16, 2025.
During the search, a forensic examination revealed two archived files on Sprinkle's computer and other electronic devices containing child pornography. One disturbing file depicted a 16-second video of an adult male sexually assaulting an infant. In total, 68 files were extracted, with some bearing titles that blatantly suggested the involvement of minors.
Evidence from the affidavit points to Sprinkle's distribution of these illegal materials through peer-to-peer networks, which are often used for sharing such content. Following the search, Sprinkle was promptly taken into custody and made an initial court appearance.
Sprinkle's involvement in Virginia Democratic politics was extensive. Apart from his role with the state party, he also served as treasurer for the Metro Richmond Area Young Democrats and was compensated for his services by various Virginia Democratic candidates.
The allegations have drawn sharp and immediate condemnation from local political figures. Richmond City Council Vice President Katherine Jordan, who hired Sprinkle as her campaign treasurer in 2024, expressed her shock and revulsion at the news. First District Council member Andrew Breton, who had engaged Sprinkle's services for campaign finance and event logistics, also voiced his gratitude for the involvement of law enforcement and the progress of justice.
U.S. Rep. Jennifer McClellan, representing Virginia’s Fourth Congressional District, communicated her shock at the appalling accusations through a spokesperson, advocating for the full force of the law to be applied. McClellan and Sprinkle maintained a professional connection dating back to 2021, when he served as her regional political director during her gubernatorial bid. The two stayed in contact on social media, with McClellan thanking Sprinkle for his support with campaign literature as recently as October 13, 2024.
The severity of the single federal charge cannot be understated. If convicted, Sprinkle faces a mandatory minimum of five years in federal prison, with a potential sentence of up to 20 years.
