In a closely watched deposition, President Bill Clinton appeared before the House Oversight Committee in Chappaqua, New York, to address his previous association with financier Jeffrey Epstein. Under oath on Friday, President Clinton firmly stated, "I saw nothing, and I did nothing wrong." This declaration came amidst an intense congressional review of Epstein's connections to various high-profile figures.
During the proceedings, President Clinton reiterated his unawareness of any criminal activities by Epstein, emphasizing his lack of involvement. "I know what I saw, and more importantly, what I didn’t see," he told the committee members. The President also expressed his disapproval of the decision to summon former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for testimony, arguing her lack of any connection to Epstein.
Newly released Department of Justice photographs were presented during the inquiry, depicting President Clinton aboard a private jet with an unidentified woman and in a hot tub with Ghislaine Maxwell, who is currently serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking minors. Despite these images, President Clinton maintained that any association with Epstein ceased well before the financier's legal troubles surfaced publicly in 2008.
The President anticipated that his responses to certain questions might be limited to "I don’t recall," acknowledging this might not satisfy the committee but insisting on the truthfulness of his statements. "This was all a long time ago," he added, pledging to avoid speculation or guesswork during his testimony.
Referencing his personal history, President Clinton mentioned his childhood experiences with domestic abuse, stating they would have made him proactive in reporting any misconduct had he been aware of it. "I would have turned him in myself," he claimed.
As the deposition concluded, President Clinton expressed his readiness to answer the committee's questions to the best of his ability, though he did not feign enthusiasm for the process. The committee has yet to release a comprehensive summary of President Clinton's testimony. The deposition is part of an ongoing investigation into Epstein's relationships and the fallout since his criminal activities came to light.
