Fort Bragg School Dismisses Teacher After Parental Complaints

A teacher at Mildred B. Poole Elementary School on Fort Bragg has been let go following parent complaints over unconventional teaching methods and dress code violations.

A substitute teacher and teacher’s aide at Mildred B. Poole Elementary School, located on Fort Bragg in North Carolina, has been dismissed from their position after a series of formal complaints were lodged by parents of pre-K and kindergarten students. The school, which falls under the purview of the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA), caters to children of military families stationed across the country.

The issue came to light in early 2025 when parents began expressing concerns about the teacher’s conduct in the classroom. Reports from CBN disclosed that the teacher, a biological male, adopted female names and was observed wearing clothing often associated with BDSM, such as a dog collar and an animal tail, during school hours. Additionally, Fox News reported that the teacher had told students about transforming into a wolf at night and had required them to address him by various "wolf" names, including "Roxxanne Wildheart," "Captain Roxxie," and others.

Students relayed to their parents that they were instructed to howl like wolves and were introduced to the teacher’s online wolf character personas. The Heartlander detailed accounts from concerned parents who said their children exhibited fear and anxiety, with one kindergartner expressing fear that the teacher might come to eat her, a notion stemming from the teacher’s alleged claims of nightly transformations.

The controversy escalated when parents, initially dissatisfied with the school administration's response, sought assistance from Liberty Counsel, a legal organization. Liberty Counsel contended that the teacher’s behavior contravened President Donald Trump's executive order from January 2025, which affirmed legal protections based on biological gender. A demand letter dated February 9 accused the teacher of engaging in disturbing conduct over the course of a year and violating Pentagon guidelines on military readiness.

Mat Staver, founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel, accused the school administrators of permitting behavior that infringed upon the rights of the children and their parents, and urged federal officials to safeguard the children. In response to the complaint, the DoDEA severed the employment relationship with the teacher and began a coordinated review of the incident.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed the teacher's dismissal on February X, 2026, stating, "The 'Wolf' was fired 2 weeks ago," in a post shared on Twitter. The social media response was immediate, with users expressing concern over the delay in dismissal and the initial hiring process.

Moving forward, Staver has recommended the DoDEA consider establishing a task force to address what he calls "dangerous gender ideology" within the educational system.

The Flipside: Different Perspectives

Progressive View

The incident at Mildred B. Poole Elementary School brings forth challenging questions about the intersection of individual expression and community standards within educational spaces. From a progressive standpoint, the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals, including teachers, to express their identity must be balanced with the need to create a welcoming and non-threatening environment for all students.

While diversity and inclusion are essential values, they must be paired with sensitivity towards the developmental stages of children and the expectations of families. It is important to foster an environment where students can learn about and appreciate diversity without feeling unsafe or distressed.

The response to this situation should involve a thoughtful examination of how schools can support educators in expressing their identities in ways that are age-appropriate and respectful of the community they serve. Moreover, it is crucial to ensure that any measures taken to address such issues are grounded in fairness and do not perpetuate discrimination against transgender individuals.

This case also highlights the need for comprehensive training for school staff on diversity, equity, and inclusion, which can help prevent future conflicts and foster an educational environment that is accepting of all students and staff.

Conservative View

The dismissal of a teacher at Fort Bragg's Mildred B. Poole Elementary School underscores the importance of maintaining a learning environment that is conducive to the educational and psychological well-being of children, particularly those from military families. The teacher's behavior, as reported, appears to have been a clear departure from traditional educational norms and raises questions about the enforcement of dress codes and professional conduct within schools.

From a conservative perspective, the protection of children's innocence and the respect for parental authority in education are paramount. The implementation of President Trump's executive order on gender is a reaffirmation of the importance of biological reality in policy-making and legal protections, and it supports the values of many American families. Furthermore, the military context of this situation highlights the necessity for a distraction-free environment to ensure the readiness and focus of our service members.

The case also brings attention to the issue of hiring practices within public institutions. It is critical that those entrusted with the education of our youth are selected based on their ability to provide a stable, respectful, and appropriate learning environment. Any deviation from this standard cannot be tolerated if we are to ensure that our educational system remains a place of safety and respect for traditional values.

Common Ground

The situation at Fort Bragg's elementary school presents an opportunity for both conservative and progressive communities to find common ground in the pursuit of a safe and effective educational environment for children. All parties can agree on the necessity for schools to serve as places where students feel secure and where learning can proceed without unnecessary distractions or concerns.

It is universally accepted that teachers hold a position of trust and influence, and their behavior should always be conducive to the well-being and healthy development of their students. Ensuring that classroom activities and teacher-student interactions are age-appropriate is a shared goal across the political spectrum.

Additionally, there is agreement on the need for clear and consistent policies that uphold professional standards while respecting the diverse society in which we live. Constructing a dialogue around these policies can help to reconcile the values of individual expression with the expectations of the broader community.

By focusing on the primary goal of education—to nurture and educate young minds—there is potential for collaboration on developing guidelines that are respectful of both individual rights and communal standards.
