The Department of Justice (DOJ) has recently brought to light a serious issue regarding religious discrimination within federal agencies. A special task force, established by former President Donald Trump and led by Attorney General Pam Bondi, has released a report alleging "numerous instances" of anti-Christian bias under the current Biden administration. This task force, focused on eradicating such biases, scrutinized federal agencies for actions and policies that may have unfairly targeted Christian individuals and organizations.
The findings, which were first reported by Fox News Digital, suggest a pattern of the federal government mishandling or outright denying Christian requests for religious exemptions, especially noticeable during the COVID-19 mandates. The report highlights cases within the Department of Defense, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the Department of Labor, indicating that these departments have marginalized Christian concerns. Furthermore, Christian universities, notably Liberty University and Grand Canyon University, have been subjected to hefty fines by the Department of Education.
The task force's report goes on to document accusations against other agencies. It claims Customs and Border Protection at the Department of Homeland Security excluded Christian perspectives from detainee directives, while the Justice Department is accused of using novel prosecution theories against Christians. Notably, the FBI is reported to have labeled "radical-traditionalist" Catholics as potential domestic terrorism threats. Meanwhile, the Treasury Department has been accused of debanking pro-Christian organizations, and the State Department is criticized for its tepid responses to global persecution of Christians.
The report also points to biased hiring practices, restrictions on Christian holiday leave, and forced compliance with LGBTQ policies that conflict with Christian doctrine. Additionally, the Department of Labor is singled out for dismantling its faith-based initiatives office in favor of one focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
In response to these allegations, White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers has accused President Joe Biden of using the power of the federal government to punish Christians, a stark contrast to Trump's approach to protecting religious liberties. The task force, which began its review in April, plans to continue its investigation with a final comprehensive report due by February 2026.
This initiative aligns with Trump's executive order from February, which established a White House Faith Office aimed at empowering faith-based organizations and aligning federal policies with American religious values. The findings of the task force represent an unprecedented effort to document and address anti-Christian bias at the federal level and may have significant implications for the future of religious freedom in government operations.
