Candace Owens, a prominent conservative commentator, has recently issued a strong accusation regarding the assassination of Charlie Kirk, suggesting involvement by the Trump administration. The allegation emerged through a video she posted online on Wednesday.
Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot on September 10 while speaking at a Utah Valley University event. Tyler Robinson, 22, identified as a left-wing college dropout, has been charged with the murder.
Owens, in her video, explicitly directed blame towards President Donald Trump and his administration for Kirk's death. "He gave so much of his life to Trump and to politics, and they were just like NOPE. That’s it," she declared in the footage. Owens further linked the administration to the national commemoration following Kirk's assassination, stating, "So here’s a holiday. What is with them giving them a holiday after they kill them? As soon as they give you a holiday, they definitely killed you. There’s no question – they killed you."
The Daily Mail highlighted that the White House has not issued a statement addressing Owens' claims, labeling them as her "most outrageous claim yet." Posthumously, the Senate, led by Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL), honored Kirk's memory by unanimously passing a resolution to establish October 14 as a National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk, coinciding with his birthday.
In a recent ceremony at the White House, President Trump presented Kirk's widow, Erika, with the Presidential Medal of Freedom on behalf of her late husband. Erika Kirk also made public her dedication to continue the work of her husband by taking on the role of CEO of Turning Point USA.
A substantial memorial service for Kirk was held in Arizona last month, which was reportedly attended by nearly 100,000 individuals. Owens, however, did not speak at the service and cast doubt on the event's independence, accusing it of being controlled by the White House. She claimed that her speaking topics, which she suggested were at odds with the administration's stance, were the reason for her exclusion.
Owens has also been noticeably absent from other memorial initiatives honoring Kirk, including the national Turning Point speaking tour and the continuation of Kirk's podcast by his Turning Point USA staff. She has recently publicized text messages between Kirk and conservative commentator Josh Hammer, which she claims show Kirk's shifting views on Israel before his death. Hammer, however, has contested Owens' interpretation, stating that the messages are being taken out of context.
Kirk's establishment of Turning Point USA marked it as a prominent conservative movement, especially among youth, known for its campus activism and large conferences attracting numerous young conservatives.
As the story develops, Owens remains firm in her assertions that Kirk was betrayed by those he considered close allies and that there is a concerted effort to obscure the truth behind his death.
