Residents of a quiet Marion County neighborhood are in mourning after the unexpected death of 64-year-old Harold Whitt Harper, who was shot while tending to his garden on a Wednesday afternoon. The Ocala Police Department received a call around 3:30 p.m. about a suspicious person near Southeast Third Street. A driver reported seeing a man, later identified as Isaac Ezekiel Toye, 29, loading a pistol and signaling the driver to stop. Shortly thereafter, a second call reported gunfire in the vicinity. Officers found Harper with a gunshot wound to the back of the head; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Toye was apprehended two blocks from where the shooting took place, with a loaded 9mm pistol in his hoodie and additional ammunition in his backpack.
