The House Ethics Committee found that she accepted gifts worth over $3,700, including a "Tax The Rich" dress, but contributed less than $1,000 for these items. This acceptance breached House rules, which generally prohibit members from receiving gifts, barring certain exceptions. Vogue's editor Anna Wintour invited Ocasio-Cortez and her boyfriend as guests of the magazine, not the museum hosting the event.
The Ethics Committee's investigation revealed delayed repayments for the rental costs of the dress and other accessories, with some vendors only compensated after persistent collection efforts. One hairstylist even threatened legal action due to an outstanding $477 bill. Although the committee did not find any intentional misconduct, it did criticize her former staff's payment management.
