Craig Scott Valdez, 36, a top aide to Alaska State Senator George Rauscher, was arrested in Juneau following an indictment by a federal grand jury. The charges against Valdez include sex trafficking of a minor, sexual exploitation of a minor, coercion and enticement of a minor, and possession of child sexual abuse material. With a conviction, he faces at least 15 years in prison, with a potential life sentence.
The arrest took place on a Friday, as confirmed by federal investigators, who have identified a pattern of predatory behavior by Valdez. Prosecutors describe him as a "compulsive child exploitation offender," reportedly targeting children as young as 13 years old in Alaska.
Evidence collected by authorities, including Snapchat communications and CashApp transactions, suggests at least 11 additional suspected juvenile victims, beyond the minor named in the indictment. The highlighted incident from October 2025 involves a 15-year-old girl from Anchorage. Valdez allegedly contacted her via Snapchat, picked her up from her home, and took her to his residence with the intent to sexually exploit her. The girl's mother intervened after tracking her daughter's location, rescuing her from Valdez's home.
Court documents reveal that Valdez used multiple aliases online to engage with underage girls, offering money for explicit images and commercial sex acts. The FBI Anchorage Field Office and the Anchorage Police Department are leading the investigation as part of the FBI's Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force.
Valdez has been terminated from his legislative role and removed from his positions within the Alaska Republican Party and affiliated organizations following his arrest. Senator Rauscher and Alaska Republican Party Chairman Carmela Warfield have both expressed shock and support for law enforcement's efforts.
As the community reels from the revelations, authorities urge anyone with information about Valdez's interactions to contact the FBI. Valdez remains in custody, with prosecutors arguing against his release due to the risk he poses to the community. The investigation continues, with further court proceedings pending.
