Alan Ritchson, the 43-year-old actor best known for his leading role as Jack Reacher in Amazon Prime Video’s popular action series, was allegedly involved in a physical altercation with a neighbor in an upscale Brentwood, Tennessee, neighborhood on Sunday. Video footage obtained by TMZ shows Ritchson striking a man on the ground multiple times. The incident reportedly occurred in the presence of two children on motorbikes, believed to be Ritchson’s sons.
The alleged victim, identified as neighbor Ronnie Taylor, provided his account to TMZ, stating that the conflict originated the day prior, on Saturday. Taylor claimed that Ritchson was riding his green Kawasaki motorcycle through the residential area at excessive speeds and revving its engine, disturbing the neighborhood's tranquility. Taylor alleged he responded by making an obscene gesture toward Ritchson, who then returned the gesture.
The dispute reportedly escalated the following day, Sunday, around noon, when Ritchson returned to the neighborhood on his motorcycle, accompanied by two children on their own bikes. Taylor reiterated his allegation that Ritchson was again speeding. Taylor confronted the actor, stating, “Can you f*****g stop this please,” which, according to Taylor, led to the situation becoming physical. Taylor claimed that Ritchson punched him in the face and kicked him, further alleging that the actor hit him “at least four times,” including a strike to the back of his head. Taylor reported sustaining bruises and swelling but did not seek hospital treatment for his injuries.
Sources close to Ritchson presented a different narrative of the events to TMZ. These sources claimed that Ritchson did not initiate the altercation. They alleged that Taylor "pushed off his bike twice" before any physical exchange took place. Furthermore, Ritchson's sources contended that Taylor “bolted into the street to try to stop Alan’s bike in a really aggressive manner” while Ritchson was riding ahead of his two children. According to these sources, Ritchson fell from his motorcycle during this encounter and sustained cuts, bruises, and a minor finger injury. The sources also alleged that Taylor “dared” Ritchson to hit him while “yelling” at the actor as he remained on the ground. It was further claimed that Ritchson attempted to leave the scene, but Taylor allegedly shoved him back to the ground, which then provoked the physical confrontation. Ritchson’s representatives stated that the actor has been cooperative with the police, and no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
A spokesman for the Brentwood Tennessee Police Department confirmed an active investigation into the matter. The video footage released shows Ritchson retrieving his helmet, picking up his motorcycle after it briefly veered onto a lawn, and then remounting and riding away, followed by the two young riders.
Beyond his current role in 'Reacher,' Ritchson has a notable career in television and film. His television credits include appearances in 'Smallville,' 'Blue Mountain State,' 'Blood Drive,' and 'Titans.' On the big screen, he portrayed Raphael in the 2014 and 2016 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' films, and also featured in 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,' 'Lazer Team,' and 'Fast X.' Ritchson, who married his wife Catherine in 2006, shares three sons with her.
In 2024, Ritchson publicly disclosed a personal struggle with mental health, revealing that he attempted suicide in 2019. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he shared that a vision of his sons motivated him to continue living. Following this experience, he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. “I was diagnosed as bipolar right after,” Ritchson stated. “Deep down, I was comforted to know, ‘OK, there’s a name for this.’” Amazon Prime Video renewed 'Reacher' for a fourth season in October 2024, with the upcoming season, based on Lee Child’s 2009 novel 'Gone Tomorrow,' slated for release in 2026. The police investigation into the altercation remains ongoing.
