Federal law enforcement agents from the FBI carried out a court-sanctioned search at the Fulton County Election Hub and Operations Center in Georgia on Wednesday. This facility, established in 2023, serves as the central point for election administration and the storage of election records in the county.
Authorities have confirmed the search operation but have provided no specific details regarding the materials sought or collected, as the investigation is still active. An FBI Atlanta representative stated that agents were on-site executing a sealed warrant at the center located on Campbellton Fairburn Road in Union City. As reported by Grace King, an 11Alive journalist, law enforcement activity was still ongoing early in the afternoon.
The search has attracted significant media coverage, with multiple news organizations such as Fox News and Reuters suggesting a connection to the 2020 presidential election. However, federal officials have not publicly acknowledged this link. Local reports have hinted that the operation might involve election materials from 2020, which have been at the center of legal debates.
The background of the FBI's action includes a recent lawsuit by the Department of Justice, as Resist the Mainstream reported last month. The lawsuit aimed to enforce a Georgia State Election Board subpoena for various election-related documents including ballots and signature envelopes. A Fulton County judge ruled in favor of the state election board in December, allowing the subpoena to move ahead.
During the FBI's activity, State Election Board member Salleigh Grubbs, also a former Cobb County Republican Party chair, visited the site and spoke briefly with reporters. Although unaware of the specifics of the agents' collection, Grubbs speculated the operation might be related to the ongoing subpoena disputes, expressing her hope for more clarity on the matter.
On the other side of the political spectrum, Democratic state Sen. Josh McLaurin, currently a lieutenant governor candidate, expressed concern at the scene, referencing the possibility of the FBI targeting 2020 ballots connected to the DOJ's legal action.
Fulton County has remained a contentious subject since the 2020 election. Allegations regarding attempts to alter the election outcome led to indictments against President Donald Trump and 19 associates. These charges were later dismissed after the District Attorney was deemed to have a conflict of interest.
Despite multiple audits upholding Georgia's certified election results, procedural issues in Fulton County have faced criticism. In December 2025, it was revealed that more than 130 tabulator tapes from early in-person voting were unsigned and ten tapes were missing. State Election Board member Janelle King labeled these failures as "sloppy" and "egregious," while Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger stressed that clerical mistakes did not invalidate legitimate votes and assured that remedial training measures were put in place.
To date, no arrests or charges have been announced in connection with the FBI's operation. Nonetheless, the federal involvement highlights continued interest in the county's election record management and adds another layer to the ongoing examination of Georgia's 2020 election processes.
